Travelolo's Guide to Barafundle Bay, Pembrokshire

This is one of Pembrokeshire's most beautiful beaches, often described as the 'Jewel in the Crown'. The bay is approximately 300 yards wide, and consists of sand backed by low dunes and flanked by limestone cliffs. It's very sheltered, and a good place for sunbathing, swimming and exploring. On exceptionally low tides, caves and arches on the northern side can be explored. Lort's cave is one of the larger ones, and nearby a short low cave leads to a small secret beach. Behind the beach and dunes, a path follows the valley through woodland, eventually reaching a track which can then be followed back to the car park at Stackpole Quay. It is a great family-friendly beach.
