Barcelona is one of the world's leading cities and has become a top city break destination. It’s a place which never sleeps and is always full of charm.

Being Spain’s second biggest city, Barcelona is packed full of excitement and the nightlife is a real draw. Most people in Barcelona don’t head out until at the earliest 9pm, so don’t expect it to be particularly buzzing before then.

Barcelona’s Nightlife

There isn’t one area to illustrate Barcelona’s nightlife, but there are to a certain extent a whole host of happening neighbourhoods to check out. Read on to find out where the best places are for going out with best options for transport, food and drinks along with the general vibe.

The Places

The super-central Placa George Orwell area offers an assortment of funky bars with fantastic food at great value, all types of drinks, and live music. Then there is Raval which serves dive bars at reasonable rates. Lastly, down at the Port Olimpic you can explore dozens of fabulous bars and restaurants for enjoying a great night in Barcelona.

You can have fun and a magic night on the rooftop of Casa Batllo, explore Casa Mila after dark, can catch a live performance in Poble Espanyo, have dinner under the stars at the wonderful Fabra Observatory then dance the night away and party in style. Also, chilling out in a chiringuito or a night walk tour through El Born can be a good idea.

Top Bars in Barcelona

  1. DRY MARTINI & SPEAKEASY

One of the most prominent cocktail bars, this Barcelona institution opened in the year 1971 as a Martinería and served just Dry Martinis. Then the bar was expanded with classical cocktail recreations with an illustrious range of innovative drinks. The outcome is a stylish and distinguished place to have a drink with jazz. The bar opens with a doorway at the back of the room leading to Speakeasy, a spectacular hidden restaurant which is positioned in the bar's storage room. Walking past bottle crates and from end to end of the kitchen, you feel like you are experiencing one of the best classic Goodfellas scenes. A balancing food and cocktail menu make this place a great bar to explore, especially if you’re a cocktail lover.

It is an attractive spot which is split into four different areas with great seating arrangements including fine-looking sofas, a hand carved black matte billiard table, walls with copper clad antiques and an eye-catching four meter tall chrome art deco bar, providing a swinging 1950's Havana New York edge whilst staying true to its Barcelona roots.

3. MILK

Opened by an Irish couple, this bar has greeted guests since 2005 and has turned into one of Barcelona’s most trendy night spots. It is designed to bear a resemblance to a decadent aristocratic drawing room, comprehensive with cosy sofas, outstanding art and antique chandeliers. Dining and drinking here is a classy experience. Featuring an innovative and wide-ranging menu, Milk is the just right party venue, or a great spot for a drink to enjoy the weekend.

If you want to keep pace with the locals, be prepared to see the sun come up in the morning.

The Transport

Metros are the best option with flexible timings. The last trains can be used by midnight on weekdays and 2 am on Fridays with metros running all night on Saturdays. You can also use local cabs to reach nightlife as reasonable rates.
