The beach is a long
stretch of white sand that gently slopes into the shimmering azure waters of
the Atlantic. Whether you are looking for water sports or just somewhere to
relax, this is surely a paradise on earth.
Ideally placed to
enjoy the best excursions The Gambia has to offer, Kotu is great for those
looking to experience this enticing country for the first time.
Its beach front has
been carefully designed. There are no ugly high-rise hotel complexes to spoil
the area’s natural splendour. Instead there is lots of greenery, pleasant
low-rise, thatched buildings and sparkling swimming pools.
Kotu Beach has a
subtropical climate with distinct dry and rainy seasons. From mid November to

If you are heading to
Kotu Beach hoping for chic shopping malls and exclusive boutiques, you’re going
to be disappointed. Other than retail outlets in some of the hotels, the place
to head for is Kotu Bendual Craft Market.
Situated next to the
Kombo Beach Hotel, you will find everything from local African drums, tie-dye
dresses, locally made jewellery to kaftans. Close by are stalls with women
selling fresh tropical fruit.
Other than the in-house
entertainment laid on by the hotels, there are a few bars and clubs in Kotu
Beach for you to enjoy. Don’t expect large, vibrant clubs here. The bars and
clubs are normally quite small but with the fine weather this is never a
problem as many prefer to dance beneath the stars.
